    Activity :
CLUBTEX, a non-profit association created 20 years ago under the law of 1901, is an initiative in the industrial sector, sought by its own companies in the field. It was initially a means of organizing group trips to specialized shows and to collectively keep an eye on technological changes.
Today CLUBTEX unites 72 members, (two institutional organizations, four R&D and training centres and 66 companies in the industrial sector), all involved, to one degree or another, in the numerous applications of technical textiles.
Nord-Pas de Calais stands amongst the European leaders, along side Belgium and the Rhône-Alpes region. Moreover Belgium represents a similar-sized market, placing the large cross-border Nord-Pas de Calais/Belgium region largely on top of European classifications. A real “Technical Textile Valley” can be found in the area within a 150 km radius of Lille.
The domains of applications: industry, transport, and medical…
The technical textiles have applications in various domains:
    • Industry: 21%. Examples: filtration of liquids, gases and dusts, cables of machines…
    • Transport: 20%. Examples: internal motor lining, car seats but also hoses, belts…
    • Medical: 16%. Examples: bands, compresses, clothes for the practitioners, artificial ligaments, textile prostheses…
    • Protection: 12 %. Examples: clothes of protection for fire brigades or for the industry.
    • Construction: 10%. Examples: insulation of foundations, waterproofness of roofs and terraces, composite cables to replace the steel, coated canvases…
    • Agrotextiles: 8%. Agriculture is a big consumer of the textile industry, for the protection of the cultures, the greenhouse equipments…
    • Packaging: 5%.
    • Technical constituents: 5%.
    • Geotextiles: 3%. Geotextiles are used in public works, notably for road construction. Examples: leak-proof textile sealed with asphalt or resin, protection of slopes and littorals against the erosion…
    • Divers (sport, leisure...):  Examples: ropes for boats and mountain-climbing, tennis racket string...
This sector is still not very well known to the general public. It is a real paradox because the technical textiles are present in a multitude of daily gestures. From car seats to the materials of house insulation, to the stringing of the tennis rackets, technical textile is everywhere. Requiring a technology watch without defect, consequent research and development investments, it is a specialists' affair.
CLUBTEX in partnership with Lille 3000 has organised an exhibition entitled “FUTUROTEXTILE” whose last issue has been on display from the 9th October 2008 to the 7th December 2008 in Kortrijk (B).

    CLUBTEX in Action
Technical textile demands a lot of technology watch and investments in research and development often from SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED FIRMS, the Research and Development is rarely well structured. This brings up the necessity of working in a network, one of CLUBTEX's reasons of being.
    The technology watch
Stimulated by a real conviction to work together, the members of CLUBTEX made the technology watch a major trump of their development.
An end-of-term report, CLUBTEX Info, distributed by the association, stems from this will. It reviews published patents as well as published scientific articles in specialized reviews.
    CLUBTEX – A philosophy
«One should no longer fight to be divided a market but fight together to create a new one from it. ». « We all worry ourselves to look for solutions while very often, this solution is at the neighbour's disposal. We have in CLUBTEX an enormous amount of competences. By putting them together, we multiply the results. » This cooperation between companies, which respects strict confidentiality rules, has already given place to concrete realisations.
    Participation at shows
CLUBTEX organises collective stands on shows, which are both general and specialised (automotive, medical, construction). Always in an open spirit, it happens that CLUBTEX takes in its movement non-member companies of the association.
The most relevant example is Techtextil, in Frankfurt, a real big mass of the profession.
In 2007, more than one thousand one hundred and seventeen exhibitors were brought together at the show to proudly display their very latest products and developments in the technical textiles and functional clothing fabric sectors. More than 22,000 visitors originating from 70 different countries attended, and having exhibited there since the beginning, this time CLUBTEX had a strong presence at the show, being represented by 25 companies and a team of visitors from 20 or so companies (78 companies in the industrial sector in total). The companies in the industrial sector returned satisfied by the numerous business exchanges.
The organisation of colloquiums and technological days
These days reunite researchers, consumer or transformative companies of technical textile and opinion leaders.
The purpose is to get people together and to carry discussions, to exchange …
Three times a year CLUBTEX organizes Technology Days in collaboration with the IFTH and ENSAIT.
    Professional Connections
CLUBTEX has initiated the development of close partnerships between technical textile manufacturers and also other action groups or prime manufacturers…
